Contre temps

The final animated short film I had on tap, Contre temps is a pretty Pixar-like type of story about a lone scavenger in a water-logged world deciding what's the most important thing to save. It's a little longer than the last two, but it moves pretty quickly. I really like the painted style of the animation here and the sound effects are really nice too. I kind of wish they would have given us a wider world shot at the end though, just a little hint for the context of the characters.

But other than that, this was pretty fun.

Check it out.

Where's Kevin Costner when you need him, right?

Another day, another animated short film post I've had waiting on deck for awhile now. This one is a very classic Grimm Fairy tales-like short about a little boy lost in the woods during a blizzard, an old dying wolf, and a promise. Very stylized. Very cool. Very dark. I really like the contrasting colors and the use of blacks, and the fact that it's in French just seems right, y'know?

take heed, children, always keep the promises you make to dying wolves,

I have a couple more of these animated short films posts waiting in my queue, but I've actually been pretty busy lately with my new job and my current writing WIP, not to mention a stack of books and movies to consume, so I haven't had as much time to take care of this stuff as I'd like. My plan is to push out the last few I have on tap and then, hopefully by week's end, I'll post a long-overdue writing update. After that? Well, the future is a dark road heading out into the unknown, kids...

So what we have today is a very on-the-nose race against time. On-the-nose is okay though, it's just a short film, so sometimes simple is better. Plus, it's cool. So, it gets a little leeway. I like the design and the little world-building details especially. I'm not usually a fan of the type of CGI animation model you can see here, especially in the main character's face, but they handle it well enough, and like I said, it's a short film, it looks pretty good, so good on them.

Anyway, you're here, you've obviously got five minutes, take a look.

Next time they should go faster,

Moon Goddess

Artemis, goddess of the Moon and the Hunt, tries to take a bath... and has the usual issues.

At this point, you really have to start questioning what's the real story here with ol' Artemis. I mean, A. she lives on Mount Olympus. I'm sure they have baths on Mount Olympus, probably a couple, so why doesn't she just wait until she gets home and use one of them if she doesn't want some regular person stumbling across her bath-time, maybe. And B. She's taking a bath outside, just right there, out in the open, butt naked. Her decision. And then she gets all mad when somebody looks. Zeus' beard, lady, either put the boobs away or hang a curtain or something, jeez...

"Moon" goddess is right,

K3loid 2

Almost 2 years ago, I posted a short film here on the blog, or maybe it was just a teaser, anyway, it was called K3loid. It was a pretty weird but pretty cool glimpse into a future war with the robots and it totally left me wanting to see more. I'm sure you felt the same. Well now, our wish has been granted, and while not exactly a film either, this one at least shows more and it's all awesome.

Let's watch...

I love the armored suits. Especially the way the helmets close. Very nice.

Hopefully we'll see something more substantial next time,
