Slipping one in under the wire

Wow, this month has just flown past, right? And with rarely an update from me either. Surprisingly, I’m sure for you regulars, the reason is the same as it ever was: I’ve been busy. Busy at work, busy at home, and busy writing. Today, however, turns out to be one of those “hurry up and wait” kind of days, so since I have little bit ‘o downtime, I thought I’d drop you good folks a line and let you know where I am at currently with things.

Just FYI, my Cold Press tastes like shit today, I don’t know why… Anyway, let’s do this!

Gunslingers of the Apocalypse:

I’ve been a bit lazy here of late. I’ve got some queries out there, floating in the ether… six, to be exact, but two or three are well past their “will respond by if interested” date and I need to change them out and send out some more, only I’ve been busy (as stated above) and haven’t gotten to them yet. I will, hopefully today, at least, that’s my intention. After that, the process goes on, my friends, and it keeps going. So far, I’ve only sent out like 17 queries or so total, so I’m still doing alright. Ever onwards, as they say.

The Little Things:

This story is done, pretty much completely. I think it really turned out well, I’m actually pretty proud of it and I’m ready to send it out into the world. I made the last real changes I expect to make this past weekend and the word count seems to have settled down in the less than 6700 range, so I think we’re looking pretty good. The first site I will be submitting to re-opens for submissions on the 5th of September, so fingers crossed, kids. I’ll post a little sidebar tracking thingee like the one for Gunslingers over there on the right and I’ll keep you all updated once I send it off.

Current Short Story WIP:
(That’s “Work In Progress” to you uninitiated out there… wink…)

This story is currently laboring along under the somewhat obvious working title: “Bloodsuckers in the Cattle”. Guess what it’s about… That’s right: Gardening. I hope to have the first draft completed… oh, let’s say Thursday, so that I can send it out with plenty of time for my fellow Scribblerati Agents to read before the next meeting. Here’s hoping, because it’s 2/3rds of the way done and I think the frame work is going to hold together until the end, but you never know… you never, never know…

On deck Short Story ideas:

I’ve got a little book full of them, but one in particular has kind of pushed its way to the front of the queue and has been signaling excitedly that it may be ready for some fleshing out. We shall see. It’s one I’ve worked on before; in fact, it’s the same script from the infamous and ill-fated comic book script page experiment… the horror… the horror… And yes, you remember correctly, Dear Reader, Marshal Banana the baby-maker is currently trying to draw up a new version of the comic, that is, when he’s not busy interning, working, or making babies, but there’s no reason why I can’t try to “novelize” this script at the same time. So, I think I’m gonna take a stab at it because it’s forming up pretty clearly and the transition from one story type to the other might be an interesting experiment. Anyway, I plan to get to that… eh… in two weeks or so. After that, well, there are one or two more immediately intriguing ideas in the pack, and a few weird little seeds that might turn out to be something cool, but there’s no rush. I was thinking I may revisit my stalled short story that had been intended for the Twin Cities anthology too. I really like some of the imagery in there and it might be salvageable as something. Who knows, we’ll see. In the end, basically, I’d like to have three or four short stories done by the end of September because…

Loft Class:

I am enrolled in a Loft Short Story class; it starts the end of September. If any of you are interested in signing up with me, here it is: Short Story class. It’s six weeks long, Monday evenings at the Loft and, as usual, I am excited. It’s always fun to take a class and work at my craft under a kind of schedule, plus… I love all the new people and their passions and projects, both the great ones and the insane ones. I can’t wait, hopefully it’ll be fun.

And that’s just about it, thanks for reading. Here’s this:

The Walking Dead Trailer

Here it is, the official trailer for the live action TV show of the Walking Dead Comic. It premieres Halloween (how shocking...), so, all you crazy dead head kids out there, follow the link to some soon to be zombie goodness: The Walking Dead trailer.

Now, I'm not really a big fan of the song chosen for the end montage or of that one particular stringy haired zombie guy, but all in all, I think it looks good. There's some great make-up going on there, that's for sure, and it looks like they're going to be sticking pretty close to the book, so that's good too. Also, I realize it's basic cable and all, but still, it appears like they're not exactly planning on pulling their "bloody" punches either. I'm excited.

The clip is from AMC, but I found it at CHUD.

An excuse, some pics, and a reminder or two...

Hey there, peeps!

Sorry it's been so long since my last post, but I have been a bit busy of late. You know me. Anyway, I'll be back in the next week or so with a more formal update, but for now, in a nutshell, know that I've been hard at work on a new short story. It's called: "The Little Things", it's about a D-list supervillian, and I plan on sending it out to places... eh... next week or so? Yeah, sure... that sounds about right... Pretty soon, anyway. It's basically done, there's just a little bit more I'd like to worry at, but then, after that... fly you're free! Like I said, I'll be back next week to let you know how things go with that, so stay tuned for that shit and keep your fingers and toes crossed for me, cool?

Alrighty then, moving on... being as it is thankfully Friday once again, don't forget to swing on over to the Scribblerati blog today, my fellow Scribblerati Agent Shawn has finally come through and put up a list of his favorite writers, so it should be an interesting read. Go check it out.

And then...

Awww yeah, kids... It's Scott Pilgrim day and I am giddy as a schoolgirl. I mean, so far, with the exception of Iron Man 2 and Inception and Winter's Bone, it's been a pretty lackluster summer, so I'm hoping for some sweet, sweet cinematic goodness here.

I'm going Sunday, let's hope it's a knock-out.
